Brian Michael Bendis and Stefano Caselli are continuing with Invincible Iron Man into “Marvel Legacy,” renumbered to #593 and beginning with the disappearance (and eventual return to the armor) of Tony Stark, according to IGN.
“Well, the theme of ‘Legacy’ was already very strongly in the forefront story of the Iron Man series. Not only has Tony’s mantle been passed on as he lays in a coma, but it’s been picked up by Riri Williams, a newcomer and relative stranger, and Victor Von Doom… who is one of the great villains of all time anywhere,” said Bendis. “On top of this, Tony had just discovered the identity of his birth mother and was just getting to figure some stuff out about himself and his legacy when the events of Civil War 2 came crashing down on him. So we have Tony’s legacy, Riri discovering her place in it, and Victor trying to reinvent his… and that’s just the stuff I’m willing to say.”
When asked if Tony Stark himself (as opposed to the Stark A.I. in comic books recently) will return as part of Invincible Iron Man’s “Marvel Legacy” story, Bendis says yes – but with big questions.
“Yes. But in what shape? Or size? Or armor?,” answered Bendis.
“I promise as unique an Iron Man story as has ever been told. All of these characters are in a unique and delicate place and what will come out of it is new and surprising stories for all.”
